Air travel around the world is currently beset with travel restrictions, quarantine requirements and testing. However, for those that are able to travel by air, now and in the future, the experience is now very well protected by the actions taken by both airports and airlines to enhance customer and staff safety.

Skytrax have introduced “COVID-19 Airline Safety Ratings” which evaluate the front-line reality of air travel based on detailed investigation and analysis of the effectiveness and consistency of measures they have put in place to ensure that their COVID-19 safety and hygiene measures are of the highest standard, focussing on hygiene, cleanliness and safety protocols. The COVID-19 rating covers potential customer risk and concern elements across the airport and onboard environment.

Airlines already certified include British Airways and Lufthansa, who were the world’s first airlines to receive COVID-19 4-star Safety ratings, and Aegean Airlines, easyJet, Air France, KLM, Emirates, IndiGo Lot Polish, Pegasus, Wizz Air and Turkish Airlines.

Air Baltic became the first airline to receive a 5-star COVID-19 rating followed by Qatar Airways.

More airlines will be announced in the coming weeks as the audit safety analysis is completed.

The results underline that customers can have increasing confidence in safe air travel once it is possible to travel again.
